St John’s Hill

Our client approached us to design a new family home for them on a site within the Shenstone Village conservation area.

The site presented many challenges, including a steep typography, issues with overlooking and several locally protected trees restricting the developable area as well as access to sunlight.

We studied the environmental characteristics of the location to propose a building that maximised internal daylight, whilst preventing overheating through shading and natural ventilation.

We surveyed the design, detailing and the materiality of notable buildings within the conservation area to create a home that responds to its context and celebrates the traditional architecture of the local area.
